Acorn Modules FAQ
F.A.Q.
Module removal
Remove module carefully to avoid bending/breaking pins.
Grip with first finger and thumb of both hands. Gently wiggle module up and out a fraction at a time until it is free. Twisting the module will damage the pins.
Be very careful if you pry the module out with a tool so as not to damage the chips on the bottom or the circuit board. Alternate between ends so module comes up parallel and not at an angle which will break the pins.
Erase "bricked" EEPROM module
The model B has no way to skip ROM intialisation on boot up & will hang if say a Master ROM image has been programmed by mistake.
- Power off the model B
- Remove the NWDS clip
- Connect NWDS clip to ground (e.g. bottom left pin of 74 series chip)
- Power on model B
- Load RTool
- With power on carefully reconnect NWDS
- Press I in RTool to list ROMS - EEPROM will appear
- Use erase option in RTool
If you have spare "dupont" extension wires you can use these to do the connect/disconnect NWDS. Be careful not to short pins when reconnecting NWDS.
Erase "bricked" FLASH module
The model B has no way to skip ROM intialisation on boot up & will hang if say a Master ROM image has been programmed by mistake.
- Power off model B
- Remove enable jumper EN1 and/or EN2
- Power on model B
- Load RTool
- Erase/reprogram FLASH module
- Power off model B
- Refit enable jumper(s)
Enable jumper EN1 corresponds to the ROM banks for the modules socket. Jumper EN2 corresponds to the ROM banks for the flylead's socket.
